Auditions
Auditions for the Golden Silks occur in one day on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Auditions will begin at 8:00 a.m. with registration at the Elliott Hall of Music on campus at Purdue. Following registration, all candidates will attend a short meeting with the directors, which parents are welcome to attend. The workshop will begin at 9:00 a.m., with formal auditions occurring at 3:00 p.m.
There will be two segments to the workshop - movement and flag. Movement will have a warm-up period, some across-the-floor segments, and conclude with learning a short routine to be performed at the formal audition. Along with looking at movement skill, judges will be looking at body carriage, posture, and performance presence throughout the audition process.
The second segment will take place on flag. After a basic warm-up block, candidates will learn a short routine that will be performed at the formal audition. A key factor judges are looking at is the ability to learn quickly, as during football season, the Golden Silks perform new routines at every halftime performance, so members need to learn and process information quickly.
A lunch break will be given, followed by about two hours to rehearse and practice the routines learned in the morning. The audition day will conclude with the formal audition, performing both the movement and flag routines in small groups for the judging panel. Decisions about the 2007-08 Golden Silks will be made and announced at the conclusion of the audition day.
For all candidates selected for the 2007-08 Golden Silks, Band Camp is mandatory. Camp begins on the Monday before school starts in August (August 13, 2007) and lasts all week through Saturday (August 18, 2007). Practice sessions start daily at 8:30 in the morning and last until approximately 9:00 p.m. with lunch and dinner breaks.
Anyone interested in auditioning should go to the "Contact Us" link and complete and submit the informational form. We look forward to hearing from you!
